The Rose and the Butterfly - a Love Story

The last ballet of Marius Petipa is traditionally considered to be "The Magic Mirror" delivered in 1903. However, the "honorary" title should be given to another performance, “The Romance of the Rosebud and the Butterfly, "which was scheduled to premiere on 1904 on the stage of the Hermitage Theater, but never took place.

This world premiere of "The Rose and the Butterfly - A Love Story" is directed and choreographed by world-renowned choreographer of Esmeralda from BOLSHOI , Vasily Medvedev, in collaboration with master teacher and principal dancer, Stanislav Fečo, the Petipa Heritage Fund and Bayer Ballet Company

With limited historical materials to study, Medvedev is creating original choreography for this adaptation of "The Romance of the Rosebud and the Butterfly," resurrecting this rare ballet in the traditional style of Petipa.

**This performance was the first ticketed MainStage performance at Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts since lockdown**
